A Month-by-Month Guide to Normandy’s Weather

Normandy enjoys a mild oceanic climate, known for its ever-changing skies but rarely extreme conditions. Winters are mild, summers pleasantly cool, and rainfall is fairly well distributed throughout the year.

From January to March, temperatures range between 2°C and 10°C (35°F–50°F). The sky is often overcast with frequent showers, but you’ll still catch some beautiful sunny days. It’s not the brightest time of year, but the region retains its winter charm.

In April, spring begins to show. Temperatures slowly rise, rain becomes less frequent, and days start to get longer. It’s actually one of the driest months of the year — ideal for quiet exploration.

May and June mark the beginning of Normandy’s most pleasant season. Longer days, temperatures around 17–21°C (63–70°F), and nature in full bloom make it the perfect time for walks, sightseeing, and local markets.

July and August are the warmest and most popular months. Temperatures rarely exceed 25°C (77°F) (but sometimes it does), keeping the air fresh even at the height of summer. Expect plenty of sunny days, with the occasional shower — typical of oceanic climates.

September and October offer a lovely late season. Daytime temperatures remain mild (16–20°C / 61–68°F), and the landscapes glow with golden hues. It’s a great time to explore the region without the crowds.

From November to December, Normandy becomes cooler and wetter again, with average temperatures around 5–10°C (41–50°F). Days get shorter, but the atmosphere is cozy and perfect for a relaxing break.

In short, Normandy can be visited year-round, but the best time to enjoy it is from May to October, when the weather is more pleasant and ideal for discovering the region. Just don’t forget a windbreaker or raincoat — here, sunshine and showers often take turns in the same day!
